18 Cool Things to Buy This Month, According to Vogue Editors

If I’m allowed two, I would add my beautiful cotton shirts from Sébline, made by Charles Sébline, an alum of Yves Saint Laurent, and Loulou de la Falaise—they’re another wonderful reminder of a summer in Greece.

I’m already looking forward to wrapping up in cozy fall staples. But this year, I want to stock up on basics that aren’t boring—like this ribbed knit set from Helmut Lang.

I’m a big fan of Ottolinger’s art prints. They’re always eye-catching and conversation-starting and look really great on their mesh pieces. Designers Codina Gadient and Christa Gadient first partnered with the artist Julien Nguyen for their fall 2020 collection and recently issued new iterations of that smash-hit collaboration. I missed them last time around, so was very pleased to be able to snag a skirt this time.

I’ve owned Solid & Striped’s The Veronica swimsuit in black for years and it’s my epitome of the perfect suit—not only does it offer the perfect balance of demure (it’s a one-piece) and provocative (the plunge gives it a bit of va-va-voom), but it has a waist (everything should have a waist!) and the bottoms offer proper coverage (swim brands, can you please stop cutting the backs of suits as narrow as the front? please?). So this summer, when looking for a suit I loved equally as much as my Veronica, I just thought, why not get it in other colors? It was the only suit I ever really wanted to wear anyway, so now I can sport it in black, white, and red. Guess it’s only a matter of time before I own the navy color, too.

I invested in a bunch of these glossy, bright, white metal CB2 planters to create what I’m calling “look good, work good, play good, be good” success IRL at home. They started working immediately. Inside, they host a FernGully forest of different plants (streamlining what was looking like a science experiment in a bunch of tiny vessels), and outside, they’re the base of Cody’s annual #trilltrellis of morning glory vines. I’ve come back to purchase them in multiple sizes—they’re all around me!

Finally pulled the trigger on the slides of the summer, The Givenchy Marshmallow platform slides! Still waiting for these to come in the mail, but can’t wait to pair them with a mini dress and layer on the accessories!

To date, Laura and Deanna Fanning remain the only designers to ever send me a piece of literature in lieu of show notes. Last winter, the book Flâneuse: Women Walk the City in Paris, New York, Tokyo, Venice, and London by Lauren Elkin arrived in a delicate box alongside fabric swatches, and the sisters explained to me the way wandering about London and reading Elkin’s book helped them imagine the ways women’s garments change their posture and practice in life. This bag they designed for their fall 2021 collection epitomizes that idea to me; Deanna demo’ed its use over a Zoom call showing how it’s perfectly engineered to hug into your upper arm and fall down to your wrist gently and elegantly so you can pop out a cigarette or your cell phone. It has a clean Space Age shape and is so radically beautiful and useful. What more could you want from a bag?

Not quite an August purchase per se, but after three months of patiently waiting for these backordered side tables, I think we can make an exception! Currently acting as nightstands, these fluted pieces have completely transformed my minimalistic bedroom and added a much-needed sense of texture and dimension.

After rediscovering my love for yoga over the course of the pandemic, I’ve been searching for new activewear brands to advance my practice. I’m currently living in this eco-friendly, geometric-print set by Wolven—these leggings are easily the softest pair I own, and I love being able to change up this 4-way top. I’m also getting a head start on my fall shopping and couldn’t resist buying this Zara dress, which has the perfect autumnal palette. I can’t wait to pair with white mules for a nod to ’70s glam!

I rarely re-purchase makeup items—I usually prefer to try something new—but Saie’s Slip Tint is so good, I’m afraid to deviate. It’s glowy without being greasy and lends just enough coverage, plus a bonus of SPF 35. Even better, a little goes a long way, so the tube lasts forever; it took me almost a full year to get through my first one.

I discovered the Australian brand Dissh on Instagram and have quickly become obsessed with their breezy linen dresses and cool separates. They are women-owned, led, and run, and have established a pioneering employment program called the Encoreship. As soon as I saw their Wren matching top and skirt set, I knew it would be a no-brainer purchase. It’s perfect for these sweltering summer temps and will be great come fall!

After spending plenty of time in the sun and sea this summer, my hair is in desperate need of some hydration. I tend to stray from oils that cause build-up since my hair is so fine, but I finally found a formula that works. May 11’s blonde restoring hair oil has saved my split ends and strengthened my highlights just in time for fall. Pro-tip, use the ultralight oil to slick back your hair during humid days or as an overnight mask!

In August, Vogue readers gravitated towards black high-waisted jeans, more specifically this pristinely polished pair created by Khaite. Dressed up or down, the elevated denim slacks will certainly come in handy this fall.
